Home-made Wine

Not making it obviously. That's just silly - it takes forever, is a right fiddle and is pretty pointless when you can buy perfectly quaffable plonk for a fiver. Besides, it nearly always smells of petrol, and at best tastes like all the bits of the fruit you never actually eat in real life.

But when you're round your in-laws and you've run out of Sainsbury's finest it is quite good fun to raid Anne's dad's cellar.

Last night we had:
Elderberry and damson 1996 (diesel vapour with cow dung undertones)
Damson 1996 (cloudy but less diesel, more cow)
and Apple 1986 (a vintage year, a nice sweet apple juice with snot sediment)

We left the last bottle of my own Apple 2005 masterpiece to mature....

  1. Hi toots you may think I have been on the wine !! You have mentioned Ellerslie George as a horse you follow - Would you say he has any chance in the GN ?? - He does fit quite a few trends re his rating - jumped round national fences - same sire as Denman !!Though I have read he jumps out to the right.!! Would appreciate your take on him---Cheers Jonah

  2. Jonah - big problem would be the trip - been trained more as a 2 and a half miler to 3 miler than a national type. Also about 16lbs turnaround with Niche Market from the Wincanton race that suited him and not the latter. On the other hand he's 150/1 on betfair - must admit to having had a sneaky tenner!

Would like to see Madison Du Berlais run personally....

  3. Thanks for that -Ive been looking for a few weeks and have backed Hello Bud & Iris De Balme @ 50-1 (may sneak in off 10:06) and Ballytrim @ 230- 1 (wont get in )I treat it as a bit of a puzzle each year having backed Richard Guest when he won @33-1 (in the swamp.)- Kilcrea castle is another I quite like. Need to draw a line- I'll end up like Gerald on TRF- I'll match your tenner on betfair and watch Ellerslie take anyone to his right out at the canal turn !!- Madison Du Berlais - what time did you put that last wine bottle in the bin ??
